Had a school transition meeting for little one. Last year he was in the communication program and now he is going to main stream again. Trust me—every time I have a phone meeting with the regional worker, or a school meeting with the SERT or the board, it takes a huge amount of emotional preparation.
Advocating for your child means mentally preparing yourself to go over every single challenge they face, in detail. One thing that helps is making a list of these challenges, broken down by different areas of daily life—this gives you clarity and focus when speaking about their needs.

But let’s be real: this process can be emotionally triggering. Talking about everything your child is currently struggling with—and what they’re unable to do right now—is hard. It means reliving those moments and facing the reality of what supports are still missing.

You have to hold yourself together through the entire conversation. No matter the outcome, your preparation is powerful and necessary.

And then the part where you have to context shift and come back to a work meeting. Its not easy. The invisible burden of all these things is only feel by those who have been through. Sharing it here and sending love to all those in the same boat.
