#Conversationswithmyinnercritic Anarkali! I jump #Conversationswithmyinnercritic Anarkali! I jumped straight from work into getting dinner ready in under 30 minutes, while trying to respond to Ayaan as he got fixated on something. I was hangry. The day had been back-to-back meetings, and I was exhausted. Dinner was done, but the dishes were still sitting on the dining table. I stepped away, ignored them, and sat on the sofa while Azeem made chai. All I wanted was to watch TV and sip my chai while it was still hot. And then I heard her again Anarkali: You’re sitting down? There are dishes on the table… kitchen everywhere . Me: I know. Anarkali: And the laundry. The content for IG. The to-do list. You could be doing something. Me: I could. But I’m tired. Anarkali: Rest is for when everything is done. Me: Then I guess we’re never resting. Anarkali: But how can you rest when there’s still so much to do? Remember we never did that before and you could do all this quicker before and then rest! Me: We also used to believe we had to.l all before we can earn rest but I’m learning that productivity isn’t measured by how much I can squeeze out of myself. Anarkali: But if you’re not doing anything..you’re wasting time. Me: No. I’m unlearning the belief that I have to earn rest. That the dishes have to be done before I’m allowed to sit and enjoy my chai. That a cleared to-do list means I’ve been productive.That exhaustion is proof I tried hard enough. Anarkali: So… you’re just going to sit there? Me: Yep. Because you need to learn that rest is not a reward for finishing everything. Anarkali: …I don’t like this new system. Anarkali: I don’t like this new system. Me: I know. 😂 You don’t have to. We’re not trying to make you comfortable. We’re trying to unlearn patterns Anarkali: So we’re resting anyway?This feels very irresponsible. Me: yes we are practicing Unlearning the belief that rest has to be earned, one uncomfortable pause at a time!
